Seeking a Sign

One of my brothers send me this verse in a text Luke 11:29-32.

Luke 11:29-32
And while the crowds were thickly gathered together. He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. For as Johan became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.”

God called Jonah to the city of Nineveh to turn Ninevites from there wicked ways. But Jonah ran away from God instead. Jonah jumps onto a ship to go to Tarshish. God causes a great storm while he was on the ship. So everyone on the ship asked Jonah, “what have you done to anger God?” He said that he ran from God. So they threw Jonah off the boat. God prepared a great fish to sallow him up. Jonah sits inside the fish for three days. Until he says to God he is going to Nineveh. The fish spit him up onto dry land. Jonah walks three days to Nineveh. As he walks towards the city, he cries out (Jonah 3:4) “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” So the Nineveh repented from there evil ways. Ninevites started to pray and fast, so God would have mercy on them. God didn’t destroy Ninevites. Jonah gets mad that God didn’t do anything. Jonah leaves the city builds himself a shelter outside the wall. Till he might see what would become of the city. God prepares him a plant to be shelter for Jonah. Jonah become graceful of the plant. God prepares a worm to kill the plant. Jonah becomes even more mad in the morning, he ask God to kill him. God says to him “If you have pity for the plant dying. That you didn’t labored, nor made it grow. Why shouldn’t I God have pity for the city of Nineveh for repenting?”

Queen of the South
Queen Sheba goes to Israel to test Solomon wisdom, to see what they said about him was true. She brought all kinds of gold and spices to try to out do him. She tests his wisdom but there was no question that the king couldn’t answer. When she saw all of his riches and wisdom, she was blown away. Sheba said to Solomon (1 Kings 10:6-9) “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard. Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom! Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.” She gave king Solomon everything she came up with. Solomon returned to her all she desired, whatever she asked, besides what Solomon has given her according to the royal generosity.

How many times to do we ask God for a sign. The Son of Man, Jesus Christ died and rose how much more do we need a sign for? Testing God of all His wisdom and understanding, instead of just believing. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding God and what He is doing in my life. I ask Him all the time, “Is this really from You? Give me a sign if it’s You.” I should just trust Him. God help me trust You more! -tsuLife Author
